Painted over two long nights.
Earned Honorable Mention
I wanted to paint at least one Nocturne. While driving in town with my wife, I spied this building and said "I'll paint that."
The first night out, after painting all day I was tired; both wife and daughter suggested not to go and go the next day. This is a competition, you have to press on; so I went and spent a couple hours laying in, establishing values and colors.
The next night, I painted again and then attended a dinner reception I arrived around 8:30 pm and set up. Took a break studying the painting and making mental notes what was needed. I started in...
I kept pressing on, however progress was elusive. I kept noticing value mistakes needing correction. Running low on coffee ?. Getting colder ????. But, never give up. I finally finished around 2:30 am, shivering from the cold and hoping when I get back it will look ok in the light. I absolutely enjoy painting nocturnes; focusing on creating art in the solitary peaceful quiet is an experience unique to plein air painting.
